Trevor and I are productive people, right? We go out and do things, we work on improving our house, we're productive! Usually. This weekend, not so much.
The most productive thing I think we did this weekend was going out for a picnic with some friends. The rest of the weekend was spent in the living room watching seasons 2 and 3 of The Deadliest Catch on the discover channel, back to back. I think I'm addicted.
The show follows about 5 boats out on the Bering Sea, up by Alaska, during the King Crab and Ophelia fishing seasons. It's crazy!! Really, I mean it! They sometimes work 38 hours straight, pulling up pots full of crabs during the middle of these outrageous storms. I mean like 20 feet waves crashing into the side of the boat that already has ice stuck all over the place because it's below freezing. Not to mention the occupational hazard of working with giagantic crabs.
The point of this blog is to tell you all that the new season started last night, and it looks like it's going to be an intense one! All of the boats have their little lucky charm routines (like biting the head of of a herring, or using a cup-o-noodles as a spitoon), and none of them were working out. FOREBODING? I think so.
By the way, the headline of the blog was provided by Captain Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie. He works on the boat with his two sons, and they have a pretty entertaining dynamic.
